Dr. Jose Evangelista graduated Valedictorian from elementary and secondary school in Candaba, Pamoanga and Summa Cum Laude from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelors of Science in Pre-Med and Zoology. He graduated with his medical degree and President of his class from the University of Santo Tomas in 1968. Dr. Jose is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Jose completed his internship at the Columbus-Cuneo Medical Center in Chicago and his Internal Medicine residency at Sinai Hospital and University of Illinois. Dr. Jose completed multiple fellowships, a pulmonary fellowship at Wayne County General Hospital and two cardiology fellowships, one at Sinai Hospital in Detroit and the other at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.
He is a recipient of various prestigious awards, some of which include, The Presidential Award for Outstanding Filipinos Overseas – Banaag Award from President Fidel V. Ramos, the Archbishop Medallion Award and most recently, Dr. Jose was awarded the highest honor bestowed by the University of Santo Tomas upon its alumni, The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Award in Health and Medicine - the TOTAL award. Both Dr. Jose and his wife Dr. Stella were the first Filipino and first couple to be inducted to the Michigan International Institute Heritage Hall of Fame.
